Blue Shield of California Product Features

With their unique needs in mind, Blue Shield of California, which is the third largest insurance carrier in the state, protects 3.3 million members Californians. Product options range from HMOs to PPOs, as well as HSA-compatible HDHPs. The comprehensive BS CA product suite includes the following insurance plans:

• Access+ HMO: This plan carries a $4000 deductible and covers preventive care, immunizations, vision, hearing, lab-work, outpatient, hospitalization, dental and maternity. A co-pay covers most services.
  
  
• Access+Value  HMO: Similar to the Access plan; families pay 40% for hospitalization after the deductible. Dental coverage is not included with this plan.
  
  
• Shield Spectrum PPO: With five deductible levels, this plan offers a lot of flexibility and includes coverage for preventive care,  hospitalization, prescription drugs,  pregnancy and chiropractor care.

Blue Shield of California also offers Shield Spectrum PPO Savings Plans, HDHP plans to accompany an HSA. In addition, all subscribers are eligible to apply for individual term life insurance ranging from $10,000-$90,000. Even if parents do not enroll, children can be enrolled in their own medical plan through YouthCares^SM. Add to these amenities a myriad  of short-term options for those who are losing current coverage, have just relocated to California, or are just in-between coverage, and Blue Shield of California has their subscribers covered.
